Many years ago I used to work for a large cable company, and at that time as a side duty, I used to be the guy that had to explain to new employees why they wanted to signup for the company 401k plan. That led me to purchase and create this web site. I would use the site to explain concepts for retirement investing. It was fun to dabble in website design and I preferred using the website than to use power point.
That job led to working in ever expanding roles in the IT field. This career path enabled my family to try living in various locations across the USA. We have finally found a place that we like and plan on staying long term, in Washington. I keep telling my friends that I can’t believe how beautiful this place is. Although our family definitely misses FL where we used to live and while there we went to Disney World almost every weekend, yes you read that right.
Before we began moving around our nation, my wife and I had a beautiful little girl. Our daughter has severe food allergies. She is what drives me to find ways to maximize my savings and investments. I hope that one day I will be able to not only take care of our retirement but ensure her future.
By the way, I didn’t earn my degree till I was in my mid 30’s. I was a college drop out, who then went in to the military. After the military and a mid life crisis I made a decision and after 4 years working at a utility I decided to make a change. I quit and I went back to college and changed my career path. It was also at this point that I started really saving to retire. I hadn’t taken it seriously until I got my first job after getting my degree. I started using investment calculators to figure out how long it would take based on my contributions. It was an eye opener. I should have started earlier. I learned about the FIRE movement and applied what I learned to get to my goals. In 2024 we are still not at our goal, but we’re getting closer. We did make it into the two coma club. I guess my point is that it’s never too late to make a change and take the steps necessary to see to your future, low cost index finds is the way.
